• Occupation: Meteorologist
• Height: 6'4"
• Eyes: Bronze.
• Nationality: American (Scottish descent).
• Age: Late 30s-early 40s.
• Hair: Bronze hair and very full red-bronze beard.
• Appearance: Rugged, individualistic type. McReady is described as something out of myth: a bronzed giant and one someone can instantly call "hero" if you go by his physical description:

  Moving from the smoke-blued background, McReady was a figure from some forgotten myth, a looming, bronze statue that held life, and walked. Six-feet-four inches he stood as he halted beside the table, and, with a characteristic glance upward to assure himself of room under the low ceiling beams, straightened. His rough, clashingly orange windproof jacket he still had on, yet with his huge frame it did not seem misplaced. Even here, four feet beneath the drift-wind that droned across the Antartic waste above the ceiling, the cold of the frozen continent leaked in, and gave meaning to the harshness of the man. And he was bronze- his great red-bronze beard, the heavy hair that matched it. The gnarled, corded hands gripping, relaxing, gripping and relaxing on the table planks were bronze. Even the deep-sunken eyes beneath heavy brows were bronzed.   Age-resisting endurance of the metal spoke in the cragged heavy outlines of his face, and the mellow tones of the heavy voice.

• Personality: As second-in-command at the Outpost, McReady takes his colleagues opinions to heart. You know others trust him and value his guidance. And he is the same way. He is very diplomatic, and open. McReady is a team player, and enjoys his work. When the stuff hits the fan, the others trusted McReady immediately.
• Weapons: Brain, mouth, electricity, fire etc.
• Skills: Stealth, medical lore, natural born leader.
• Education: I believe McReady possesses a PH.D in meteorology, he was this close to becoming a medical doctor when something lured him into studying climate rather than disease. He does not talk down to his fellow crew members, electing to speak thoroughly. A meteorologist for 12 years, McReady is a man who is moved not just by research but how it effects his world and others.
• History: As mentioned prior, McReady earned his doctorate in Meteorological studies, he was pre-med but something made him switch discplines. He's in Antarctica to learn more about one of the most extreme climates on Earth. I don't believe he's there to escape something/someone from his past.

Some speculation:

If one looks at McReady's physical description it's almost akin to the mythological take on Thor (even though McReady is of Scottish descent). Therefore, taking McReady's appearance into account, it's natural he would journey to the frozen wastes and fight a 'frost giant' of formiable and terrible might. Campbell might not paint it so obviously but the myths are just beneath the surface, otherwise he wouldn't have gone into such great detail regarding the mythic appearance of his hero.
