MacReady (The Thing)

- Real Name: R.J. MacReady a.k.a. Mac.
- Occupation: Chopper pilot for hire, former soldier. Last seen in Antarctica at Outpost 31.
- Rank: if you go by the comic, then Lieutenant, Navy Chopper pilot division. 'Nam.
- Height: 5'9"
- Eyes: Blue.
- Nationality: American.
- Age: early to mid-30s.
- Hair: Shoulder dark brown hair. Full beard.
- Appearance: Rugged, individualistic type. Mac refuses to wear the standard parka and many other winter necessities at Outpost 31. Over his long johns, plain gray t and light blue sweatshirt, he wears a brown tropical print shirt. Caps it all off with a very o.t.t. sombrero.
- Personality: Introverted. Slow-burner, somewhat anti-social. While amicable with most of the men at Outpost 31 he still has a major problem with authority (Capt. Garry). Mac prefers to go it alone, unless he's forced otherwise. When he gets pissed off, forget it.
- Weapons: Brain, fists, knife, mouth, flamethrower, dynamite.
- Skills: Stealth, strategy, pilot, good leader, excellent in a bar-room brawl-type fight.
- Education: Unknown, but given Mac's history I wouldn't be surprised if he were drafted for 'Nam right out of high school. While he may not have the scholastic education, the war taught him more about life and people than most would ever know.
- History: An army chopper pilot during Vietnam, something during the Lieutenant's tour caused him to inwardly snap. Now brooding behind alcohol and solitude, who knows how many opportunities fled once MacReady returned home from the war.
