George (The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue/Let Sleeping Corpses Lie)
- Real Name: George Meaning.
- Occupation: Antique Shop owner.
- Height: at least 6'.
- Eyes: Blue.
- Nationality: English.
- Age: mid 20s.
- Hair: Shoulder length dirty blonde hair, full beard.
- Appearance: Handsome, sophisticated, well-to-do hippie. Dons velvet flares, black leather jacket, black newsboy cap and blue shirt. George isn't conceited about his appearance, but the color coordination shows a guy who is art-oriented, pays attention to detail etc.
- Personality: Very outgoing. Not afraid to speak his views on the environment, society, the man, or zombies. Extremely blunt. Once George gets to know you, he can be quite cordial and pleasant. He shows some manners, but sometimes needs to be prodded. Hates authority. George is rather compassionate, and like MacReady, a slow burner. Apparently, he craves solitude and country-life: no pollution, no crowds thank you very much. Very smart. Very squeamish.
- Weapons: Brain, hands, fire, mouth.
- Skills: Good under stress, quick thinker, excellent in a bar-room brawl-type fight.
- Education: Very intelligent, George most likely got a serious dose of English Lit., and a smiting of art/ancient history under his belt. The English Lit appears via Shakespeare'sHamlet, in the slightly altered quote: "Methinks, the lady doth protest too much." Furthermore, Meaning initially scoffs at Edna's claims of Guthrie being a quite dead loony. Dead people walking around is a lame concept only touted in "very bad paperback novels." (This could be the screen writing quartet's little wink at George Romero for reinventing Richard Matheson's I am Legend as something of his own). As far as the art/ancient history, George's shop is full of antiques and modern pop art/sculpture. As the proprietor, Meaning should have a basic understanding of the pieces he sells, at the very least to keep something popular in stock.
- History: Nothing is known about George prior to his shop-keeping existence. I can presume from the film that he's well off from his sales of antique and modern art. He has his own business, house, is well-dressed and definitely got some uni in there somewhere. His link to the hippies is his ecological sense, his desire to keep the earth pure. The pollutants that surround his working existence disgust him (note the scarf about his face while on his motorcycle), that's why he's so quick to dismiss and disrupt the work of the agricultural experimental unit at Lewis Farms.
