(Realm of Chaos)
This is IT. THE song that transmuted me into the fan of Bolt Thrower I have been since I first heard this on that bleak November day back in 1989 (a rabid fanatic). While I've grown to respect 1994 version it just doesn't do it for me in the studio environs, the original downtuned bastard that is World Eater remains the heaviest song I've ever heard.
Every last component of this monolithic head-removing beast is in perfect form: unbelievably heavy guitars and bass, berserker battle howls and a frenzy inducing drum session-that to this day- leaves me higher than any synthetic drug known. That opening riff (continuing from In Battle There Is No Law -thanks Gavin ;)), played at this pitch, buried deep; like a land mine waiting to be stepped on, or even better, a primordial war machine pulverizing everything in it's path.
My god, I just can't describe how brilliant it is. Karl truly sounds like an inhuman warlord. And those riffs, the pitch is so gloriously bottom-heavy, it's almost like experiencing an afterschock. When the tempo really picks up, it seems as if you are transported to the warped dimensions of the games themselves.
Honestly, 18 years later this song still does the same things to me. Pushes all the right buttons, making me head bang so hard I come close to breaking my neck (thankfully that hasn't happened yet...). I am instantly transported to the unfurling chaotic scene heard in Karl's roaring and the frenzied musical attack behind him.
It's this spirit that Bolt Thrower have retained to this day: relentless and steadfast and, yes sometimes as unflinchingly brutal as World Eater remains.
There is no stopping this thing, this molten, furious bit of tunage which kills all challengers.
