(IVth Crusade)
One of things I love about Bolt Thrower is the total package. Everyone in the band gels to become one lethal unit. Yes, the riffs remain unbelievably brutal, but I love how the whole band becomes one. This said, it was a little weird to realize that The IVth Crusade the mix changed everything ( I would one day love to hear In Battle There Is No Law as it should have been).
The most prominent aspect in the explosively hook-laden track Where Next To Conquer is Andy Whale's thundering drum attack. Whale -who was great, but couldn't always keep the pace- is in absolute top form here. His double bass and snare-tom barrage just propel this song to such vicious heights, I often have it on a repeat loop.
Okay, it's not just Whale.
From In Battle There Is No Law through to The IVth Crusade, Bolt Thrower snuck in at least one really catchy, frantic song and when that stopped on a consistent basis I sorely missed it. Where Next To Conquer is a tune so hook-laden riff wise, it stays with you for a long time afterwards. This track makes you want really move. Additionally, this killer is deftly sandwiched between the monolithic Embers and As The World Burns. It is that short, not-so-subtle- punk-like blast I am very pleased to see the band rediscovering now.
