It's now 2010...geez, was it over 18 years ago that I last saw the band perform (sadly, yes). My respect for the Bolts as musicians has always been there, but now that I've picked up the bass again, I'm just in awe. I recently found the bass tabs to World Eater. Good lord how the hell did Jo, Baz and Gav play this at the furious speeds from 1988 to 1993-ish (I don't know when they slowed the tempo down) but wow. I can happily say at this point I'm managing the first few notes and hammer ons to this brilliant song, and learning how to play a Bolt Thrower track makes me respect their song writing abilities even more. They say their songs are pretty simple - perhaps yes, perhaps no. I can't answer that, all I know is learning how to really play the bass and wrangling songs from a beloved band just feels right.
Goodness willing I'll see the band should any dates arise past their May 2010 tour (I'm really pushing to finish university this Summer, I'm sick of it).
As far as this site goes, it's still here. As far as updating, beyond this page, that's something I hope for somewhere down the line (should a new album surface) or if I feel like writing a review of a gig...but for now consider this site hunkered down during a fire fight.
and now the site as it's been for the past couple of years...
From 1989 to 1994, Bolt Thrower were THE reason d'etre for me musically and emotionally. Since then, this hasn't changed much. As long Bolt Thrower continue to create, I'll be there.
I don't know why I'm amazed at how much Bolt Thrower's music still makes me that teenaged slack-jawed, headbanging warrior-ette. You'd think I'd know after 22 years, but hearing songs like Cenotaph and World Eater alongside the brilliant Killchain just makes me want to create and wage war against real life.
School is taking priority right now. So I thank Bolt Thrower for making my own worlds more fun and interesting with your music as part of the imagination engine. Of course when the band get around to another album, I'll be there. As one of the three remaining death metal bands (and the only English one) to still kick serious tail old school style, I don't think I'll ever give up on the mighty Bolts.
Thanks eternally Jo. And cheers to Karl, Baz, Kiddie & Gav and Whale for all you've created. And I hope you'll create. The best is yet to come!
Remaining Loyal...
What's here: Pages on select songs from the band's recording history. I wanted to do something different. Looking for bios and that? Head over to Bolt Thrower's official site for all the tactical briefings.
Armoured Tanks to:
Jo, Karl, Dave and Whale (wherever you may be). Mom, Ravenna & Sifu, the fans who have kindly linked to this site at it's many locations and the multitude of designers, software and books used to get this far.
